University of Florida
(UF - USA)
The UF is a major public research university. The state’s oldest and most comprehensive university, UF is among the nation’s most academically diverse public universities.
As a land-, sea- and space-grant institution, UF is dedicated to serving the interests of society and is an economic powerhouse behind Florida’s economy.
UF is consistently ranked among the nation’s top universities. Rankings like second among Forbes "Best Value Public Colleges" (2016) and second in Kiplinger’s “Best Values in Public Colleges” (2015) are a result of UF’s commitment to provide the highest quality education at the best value.
UF is also well-known for fostering innovation and commercialization. The Florida Innovation Hub at UF, which is a unique, all-inclusive business incubator, is driven by UF’s proven record of technology transfer. The city of Gainesville provides an amazing entrepreneurial-minded community and additional resources for commercialization, including the internationally acclaimed Sid Martin Biotechnology Incubator, located 14 miles west of the UF campus.
UF has a 2,000-acre campus and more than 900 buildings. It is one of fewer than ten universities to be designated as a comprehensive campus. UF has 16 colleges all headquartered and predominantly housed on its main campus in Gainesville: Agriculture and Life Sciences, Arts, Warrington College of Business, Dentistry, Design Construction and Planning, Education, Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering, Health and Human Performance, Journalism and Communication, Levin College of Law, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, and Veterinary Medicine. For Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the co-location of a medical school, veterinary school, dental school and other health science disciplines, along with agricultural and food science on the same, contiguous campus is a major advantage.
The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) at the University of Florida houses one of the largest and most dynamic engineering programs in the nation. Curricula offered across nine departments, 15 degree programs, and more than 20 centers and institutes produces leaders and problem-solvers who take a multidisciplinary approach to innovative and human-centered solutions.
Students, faculty and alumni are hailed as New Engineers who aim to transform the way we live, work, and play. The college produces inventions at twice the national average — and startups at five times the national average — for every research dollar invested. Engineering is the largest professional school, the second largest college, and one of the top three research units at UF. Established in 1910, the college was named after Distinguished Alumnus Dr. Herbert Wertheim in 2015.
